By entering the Challenge, you agree that your participation will be governed by, and you shall abide by, all of the terms and conditions outlined below (the “Terms”).
The term “Entrant” refers to an individual submitting an entry to the Challenge. If this individual is under the age of majority in the jurisdiction where he/she resides, the term “Entrant” shall include that individual’s parent/legal guardian. Entrants are invited to submit entries as detailed below.
IF YOU ARE A PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN AGREEING TO THESE RULES FOR THE BENEFIT OF A PARTICIPANT YOU ARE FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS/HER ENTRY IN THE CONTEST, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY LEGAL LIABILITY THAT HE/SHE MAY INCUR.
1. Mission
The primary goal of the Challenge is to motivate young people to design and develop original video games. Sponsors believe that the very act of designing and developing a video game carries with it significant benefits for the creator including encouraging design and systems-based thinking and helping to cultivate the associated skills; introducing young people to Computer Science and giving them a context and motivation in which to engage with computational thinking and coding; giving young people an opportunity to design with intentionality and with an audience and purpose in mind; encouraging innovation and creative problem solving; and exposing young designers to the iterative and collaborative design process and the game creation process more broadly. In addition to the benefits of designing and developing any game, making a game about a topic requires the creator to learn about and develop a deep, systemic understanding of that topic.
2. Eligibility
The Challenge is open only to Entrants between ten (10) and eighteen (18) years old as of the start of the Entry Period, as defined below. Entrants must have the permission of their parent/legal guardian to participate in the Challenge if they are below the age of majority in the jurisdiction in which they reside. Entrants may, in Sponsors’ discretion, be required to provide verification of eligibility, age and/or parent/legal guardian permission.
Entrants who are between ten (10) and thirteen (13) years old, inclusive, will compete in the Junior Division of the Challenge. Entrants who are between fourteen (14) and eighteen (18) years old, inclusive, will compete in the Senior Division. Entrants are not in competition with Entrants from the other Division.
The foregoing notwithstanding, the following individuals are not eligible to enter or win the Challenge: (a) current or former (within the twelve months immediately preceding the start of the Entry Period) employees, officers, directors and contractors of the Sponsors; (b) anyone involved in the conduct of the Challenge, including judges; (c) any member of the immediate family (i.e. a spouse, parent, grandparent, child or grandchild) or household of any of the foregoing individuals; (d) any individual residing in a jurisdiction where participation in the Challenge is prohibited or restricted by law.
For Tracks designated as eligible for individual Entrants, only one individual may participate in the entry. For Tracks designated as eligible for teams, up to four (4) Entrants within the same Division may collaborate on an entry provided each collaborator meets these eligibility requirements.

Please note that this initial review is not a final determination of eligibility or compliance with the Terms. Submissions that appear preliminarily to be complete and to satisfy the entry requirements will be reviewed and scored according to the Judging Criteria described below. For each Track/Division, the eligible Submissions receiving the highest scores (up to ten per Track at Sponsors’ discretion) will be included in Phase Two.
In the second phase (“Phase Two”) a panel of judges designated by Sponsors for each Track will review and score all Submissions included in Phase Two for that Track/Division according to the Judging Criteria described below.
9. Judging Criteria

For Thematic Tracks, criteria (a), (b), (c) and (d) will be applied along with criterion (e): Theme, or the extent to which the Project addresses and embodies the relevant theme. Following Phase Two, the Phase Two scores for each Submission within a Track and Division from all judges will be combined. The Entrant(s) from each Track/Division whose Submission receives the highest combined Phase Two score shall be declared the potential winner of that Track/Division, subject to eligibility verification. In the event of a tie within a Track/Division based on combined score, the Entrant(s) whose Submission receives the highest combined score with respect to the Creative Vision criterion shall be declared the potential winner of that Track/Division. Each potential winner and his or her parent or legal guardian will be required to complete and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, Confidentiality Agreement, Release of Liability and, if legally permissible, a Publicity Release within seven (7) days of attempted delivery of same. Noncompliance within this time period or return of any notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and an alternate winner may be selected.
